According to BART the parking lots at the West Oakland BART station have an estimated fill time of 6:30 AM, meaning you have to get there before 6:30 AM in order to get a spot. For those of us who don’t start work until 9:00 or 10:00 AM its nearly impossible to find a parking spot.

Thankfully though, you now have another option. You can now reserve parking for the West Oakland BART overfill lot online through GottaPark. At $8 dollars a day, its an affordable and time saving solution for those days you decide to take your car to BART.

Thousands are expected to fill the streets of the Mission District Sunday, when a 3-mile stretch of road will be closed to automobile traffic as part of the city’s popular Sunday Streets program.

Instead of cars, the streets will feature a circus, hockey demonstrations from the San Jose Sharks, a screening of the World Cup final and many other programs along Dolores, Valencia, 24th and Harrison Streets.

The popular program began nearly two years ago when civic leaders decided that city streets should be central part of the community, not just a route for automobiles.

“Sunday Streets has become a great way for families from all over the Bay Area to enjoy our neighborhoods,” Mayor Gavin Newsom said in a statement.

Since March, streets have closed in the Mission and Bayview as well as along the Embarcadero and Great Highway. They will continue into the fall.

Nearby residents will also be able to enjoy the newly-renovated Garfield Swimming Pool near Garfield Square this weekend after it opens on Saturday. The pool underwent $260,000 worth of renovations and admission will be free on Saturday.

“Thanks again for saving me app. $30 per day for my 3-day parking last Wed. – Sat. at the Park 55 in downtown San Francisco. It was just as described, an app. 3-block walk from the parking lot to the hotel (unfortunately down pretty dirty streets and past several “street people”, which was NO PROBLEM for me, as a 48 year old healthy male, but might bother some women).

Anyway, I just left good feedback for the hotel stay on “Priceline.com” that MAY be used in Zagat surveys, and at the bottom of the survey, there was a spot to leave a message as to “How future travelers might be able to save money if they stay there”. The only bad thing I mentioned about the great hotel a question earlier was the high cost of the onsite parking, so I put in a plug for you guys “Try ‘GottaPark.com’ to save quite a bit of money parking in a nearby city lot”, and even stated that I used you & saved app. $30 per day.

Hopefully it will get into Zagat and you guys will get a lot of business from it!

Thanks, and hoping to see you guys in New York City, Baltimore, and Philadelphia soon!”

- Steve B. in S. New Jersey

“I found you while trying to find parking lots near my destination in Downtown SF. In minutes I had my confirmation for less than the posted rate, and no worries for my visit! Not having to think about parking in San Francisco is a tremendous benefit. I will recommend GottaPark to everyone!”

- Danielle K. from Campbell, CA

Thanks to Danielle and Steve for the great feedback. We’re always glad to hear that people are having good experiences with our products.

If you’d like to shoot us an email about your experience, good or bad (hopefully good though), you can send it to brian@gottapark.com

San Francisco look out, free parking is coming to an end across the city. As part of the city’s SFpark initiative, the MTA is planning on installing meters on various streets which would transform 1,310 free parking spaces into metered spaces.

According to SFGate.com Turk, Fell, Townsend, South Park, Hoff, Cesar Chavez and King are among the streets set to get new meters, but a complete list can be found online at the SFMTA website.

The MTA isn’t stopping here either and has already approved an additional 5,400 new meters at a board meeting earlier in the year. I guess we may be seeing the beginning of the end of free parking in San Francisco.

SF Gate’s transit blog had an interesting article today about the future of parking and technology. The article talks about San Francisco’s SFpark initiative as well as GottaPark as examples of tech making the arduous task of parking easier.

The SFpark program will begin rolling out soon in a few test neighborhoods. Sensors have been installed below parking spots to determine if a space if currently being used. This data will then be made available online for developers to use in applications and other projects. SF will also use the data to determine flexible parking rates and time limits, based upon usage. SFpark represents a new development in parking and will be a test-case that cities across the country will be watching.

How this new technology progresses will be interesting, particularly possible integration with already existing services like GottaPark. Imagine being able to reserve your on-the-street parking before you go.

The article also talks about GottaPark’s existing technology that allows drivers to book their parking in advance at 10,000 spots across the city. The article features our easy process to find and book parking including around AT&T Park, normally one of the hardest places to parking in the city.
